We are a global community with access to travel, cultures and food from all corners of the globe. Fifty eight brings together this fusion with a nod to the happy go lucky character of Cuba blended with the understated British colonial aesthetic. The restaurant is influenced by the classic French bistro formula of delicious, freshly cooked frequently changing menus in the dining room and casual snacks and sharing plates in the bar.
Great Britain is one of the most cosmopolitan, multicultural nations in the world with cuisine that reflects this diversity as does ‘Fifty Eight’ founder Vick, a British born Indian who has lived in France for many years where he opened his first restaurant.
British food has undergone a dramatic transformation since the 70’s when British food was a tawdry joke amongst most Europeans, except of course the Swiss.
French food has always had a reputation for excellence which is well deserved but unlike the French we do not believe in simply throwing butter or cream at a dish to add flavour. Spices, chilli and seasoning in the hands of a skilled chef can elevate any meal.
Mercado Lounge is on Abbey Street, just off the High Street in the heart of Market Harborough. We’re a handsome place, with floor to ceiling windows all around and a really pretty large central courtyard, perfect for watching the world go by. For a such a large open plan space, we’ve a surprising amount of nooks and crannies to get lost in and enjoy our fantastic range of food and drinks (including full kids, gluten free and vegan menus) served in a really relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Our rather smart building used to be a headquarters for Golden Wonder crisps, fact fans! This is apt as we, er, sell crisps.
We are a local family run cafe situated in the centre of Welland Park offering good coffee and incredible food. Our ingredients are fresh and locally sourced and all savouries and cakes are made in house.
